Geocache Description:

This is a park & find at The Polinar Dam near Inverurie. Go
towards Burnhervie from the 'Morrisons' roundabout at Inverurie.

I used to cycle here as a child with my friend in the summer on the
way to horseriding lessons nearby. We often stopped by here. Kids
used to swim here, but I never did myself! A work colleague told me
of her brother who nearly drowned here about 50 years ago after
getting stuck in a pothole. I have tried to find out the history,
online and in the library, and the only information I could find
was short and said that The Polinar Dam used to serve the Loco
Works, the railway station in the days of steam, and the cement
works to this day. Any info appreciated.

Some more history from e20rod....Thank you...

There's a bit in the title
deeds to our land (the two fields either side of the dam to the
north and east) which details that the land was sold to the
Inverurie Locomotive Works around 1900 (can't remember the exact
date!) by the Earl of Kintore. The dam was built shortly after that
to supply water to the loco works. The deeds are quite specific
about what was and was not allowed on the land. It states that a
hut was allowed for the accommodation of one person to maintain the
dam and he was allowed to keep one dog! The deeds also state that
the land had to be fenced in a particular way and the original cast
iron strainer posts are still there. The original pond behind the
dam was (I've been told) brick lined and was much larger that can
be seen now as it has silted up quite a bit. It has been dredged at
some stage in the past (evidenced by the mounds at the top end of
the pond) but it could do with being done again if anyone has a
slew digger and few spare days!

Park on the bend. There is a kind
of layby on the bend. The cache itself is not within the immediate
area of the Dam.
