This cache is a 20 meter walk from a parking area and a short drive
(600 meters) off the highway. This is a small Lock ‘n’ Lock
container with room for small travelbugs or geocoins.
The cache is located OUTSIDE the fence of R.C.A.F. Station Alsask
Pine Tree Radar Dome. This R.C.A.F. station was a part of the
CADIN/Pinetree Project, an early warning site integral to North
American air defence against Soviet bombers and missiles. Clearing
and grading of the land began in 1961 and the base was completed in
1962. The long range radar unit, 44 Radar Squadron, was operational
and took over the station in early 1963. Later the station was
known as a Canadian Forces station. The base was disbanded in 1987.
The entire base complex at one time included three radar domes,
housing units, water supply system, a swimming pool, school and the
first cable television in the province of Saskatchewan. At its peak
the station was manned by approximately 125 service people and 60
civilian employees.
