Geocache Description:

My second cache in the borough of Wigan.

Well Wigan has been busy recently so I thought I would join in the fun and place another. This cache is in Elnup wood which I pass every day on my way to work. I'd like to thank the Groundwork Trust who manage Elnup Wood for giving me permission to place it.

Elnup wood contains the remains of Standish Corn mill. The photo of the millers house below was taken at the turn of the the previous century and is taken from this local history website.
Standish Corn Mill

Look out for the gigantic tree which has recently taken a tumble. You will know which one I mean when you see it. A lot of the trees in this wood have quite peculiar shapes and they grow at funny angles. With a bit of imagination you can pretend you are in middle earth!

With regards to parking, there is very limited parking at the entrance to the wood (given as a waypoint). You should be ok in the nearby housing estate.
