Geocache Description:

This should be a quick park and grab.

I believe this area used to be home to the McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company, and for a long time after that it was an ugly, empty dirt lot. Now it is home to many different business. Camoed cache is located in a sort of "green belt" nearby that is popular with parents walking kids/dogs, so use stealth. Rating difficulty is based on looking at the hint, which should pretty much give it away. Cache can hold a few small trade items. $5 bill for FTF.

Here, thanks to Amtraker, is the history of this place!

The western portion of Culver City, known as the Walnut Park Annexation, became a part of Culver City in 1925. The furthest point west was the Culver City Kennel Club, where dog races took place with pari-mutuel betting. In an August 19, 1947 Star News account, the dog track was shut down shortly after it opened. Then a new $150,000 dog track opened June 22, 1932, with 20,000 enthusiastic fans and 200 employees. Two days after opening, betting was investigated, it was raided, but the case was thrown out of court. On March 29, 1935, the Citizen Newspaper reported that the state might legalize dog racing, and that the dog track had been closed for two years. It was also reported that during WWII, the space was used by Douglas Aircraft for storage. Later it was used for auto racing, with the owner, Mr. Loadvine, intending " to bring Indianapolis to the West." It became a track for midget autos, a Demolition Derby, and many remember Dick Lane ("Old Leatherbritches"), doing commercials, from the location on 1950s television. After Douglas Aircraft, the property became Hughes Helicopters. The aircraft structure became the Headquarters for the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, and a swap meet also used the facility. After many years the blighted area, that property edging Walnut, was developed into the new Costco shopping center.
