This is the Lincoln Highway. Along Hwy 50 you can see portions of the old highway and sign markers "L" on poles and culverts. In 1912 work began on the Lincoln Hwy a gravel road from New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco (3300 miles). The Lincoln Highway Association was created in 1913. Car makers, oil companies, and tire companies sponsored the highway project. From Ely the Lincoln Hwy follows Hwy 50 west.
Park on old Lincoln Highway. Easy walk get some exercise. Cache is a round green metal cookie can south of Hwy 50.
