This cache location is a hike from the parking lot.
You can get most of the way there on the cement trail. The last
little bit, depending on the direction you come, is a dirt trail.
There will be shrubs and bushes near the end.
I have birded Arbor Hills Nature Preserve since 2001 by logging
over 350 visits and tallying 165 species of birds. I have created a
series of caches throughout the park based upon certain types of
birds I find at different times of the year. Each cache is placed
in the favored habitat of the bird when it visits Arbor Hills. This
is the ninth cache of the series and probably my favorite bird in
Arbor Hills.
Painted Buntings are a beautifully colored bird that nests in Arbor
Hills. They arrive in April and leave in August or September. The
head is a vibrant blue, a green/yellow back and wings, and a bright
red stomach and rump. They love open areas where they can sit up
high and sing. The area of this cache is a prime spot for Painted
Buntings. You are looking for a camoed matchstick holder.
