Geocache Description:

This cache is dedicated to the Helena Heli-attack crew, Hot Shots and Wildland/Forest Fire Fighters.

Back in 2003, Helena saw some frequent forest fires. I just happened to be working one day and a fire broke out in the American Bar area. My dad flies the DNRC helicopter and heli-attack crew and I actually got to watch him dip the bucket and do water drops on the fire. This is the area that he was getting water from. There were a ton of boats out here and they were all crowded around watching this take place. It was pretty neat to watch all this happen.

My brother also happens to be a Fire Fighter for the Feds. All these guys and gals work hard every fire season, so I just wanna say; "Thank You!"

ABOUT THE CACHE: Park here; N46.42.590 W111.47.965
You will need to cross Trout Creek, this can be done by going directly into the water (it's not too deep and there are a couple of places to choose from), you can cross by walking across the felled tree (you better have good balance, I did it, so it can be done) or you can boat/kayak from Devils Elbow recreational area. Once you cross, there is an established trail. It is a bit rocky in spots and if you don't like getting scratched up, wear pants. The hike from the parking area is .22 mi. When you get close to the cache there is a short uphill climb (off trail, not bad) with a great view from up top. After you're done grabbing the cache, you can continue on for the rest of the trail.

This is a neat spot for birding and bringing the dogs. Enjoy! Remember to trade up or trade even.
