Dead Marshes is a straightforward cache. Follow the trail as long as you can, then bushwhack about 80-100 feet.
When we decided to hide this cache here, the area reminded us of the Dead Marshes from the Lord of the Rings. If you visit in the late winter or spring, you'll know what we mean. You'll want to wear boots since this area can be wet. "Cold, clammy winter still held sway in this forsaken country. The only green was the scum of livid weed on the dark greasy surfaces of the sullen waters. Dead grasses and rotting reeds loomed up in the mists like ragged shadows of long forgotten summers." - JRR Tolkien Cache is a medium lock and lock box. Original contents include Travel Bug, small trading items and a $5 DD gift card first-to-find prize. Enter the Town Forest from the Wood End School parking lot. You can approach this area from Sunset Rock Lane. During school hours you may want to consider parking on Sunset Rock Lane and walking in. The path into the forest is on the other side of the soccer field. As soon as you enter the path, look for the path forking to your right and follow that. Do not go straight ahead. The best way to bushwhack your way into the cache from the trail is to turn left immediately before reaching the small boardwalk. As you near the cache site, the GPS coordinates can be jittery. If you're up for a nice day of hiking continue on after finding this cache to find the other caches in the Town Forest. You will cross a boardwalk and can take the Pine Ridge Trail to "Bunsen and Beaker" and others.
