A mostly easy walk along a particular coastline - ending in a beautiful bay with cliffs and often marvelously coulored sea.
For no strange reason, Castiglioncello has been a capitol place for picture makers – first painters, later for the motion picture movie makers. Even a couple of movies are shot here, best known is “Il sorpasso” by Dino Risi (1962) – see also the cache “Il sorpasso” (GCYX0H) The reason is the special light just here. Often Castiglioncello is warmed by a weird light, which is both warm and cold at the same time. An other reason might be that this cliffy part of the coast with both “scoglie” and sandy bays is very picturesque. The painters crowded here in the 19th century because of this, but also because these poor artists where invited by rich castiglioncellians, out from for instance Firenze to improve health and get inspiration. This was basically the start of the Machiaioli school of painters, with lots of famous names. And it’s maybe also the very start of the still rising house prices in Castiglioncello. This is a four-step cache, taking you along a part of this beautiful coast. You should try even in stormy weather when the sea is very fascinating. In daytime in the very high season the cache might be hard to find without attracting attention from summer guests.
