The Cache is located in Simonside, Northumberland a 40 minute hike from the nearest parking. The trail is hilly but defined.
Park at Lordenshaws car park N55 16.998 W001 55.115 (this is not far from a cache called Lord and the Rings).
Follow the path southwest, the first hill you see is the biggest of the day. The trail is in peat and heather so can be muddy, however, the views are lovely and on a clear day you can see all the way to the coast. Look out for Pheasants, Pee Wees and friends as you stroll along.
On your way to the Cache you will come across Spylaw Cottage N55 16.280 W001 56.346. This cottage was restored and is now maintained by Blyth Valley Scouts. We use it as a base for Incident hikes and Expeditions in the area. Have a look at the photos to see how we have done.
The Cache is a 5 litre tuppaware container and at the time of placing the cache contained trinkets donated by members of Viking Explorer Scout Unit.
When you have found the Cache why not have a look at the 'Running Stone' which is about 50m east of the cache position. The challenge is to run to the top of the stone without putting your hands down. We would love to see photos of your attempt.
