Camouflaged metal ammunition box on KU campus wild area
OK, parents, how many of you have an excess of "McToys" lying about your house, auto, garage, etc? Want a place to banish them? Then bring them to the McToy Gulag and get them out of the house! My son Nicholas provided the initial population. Please try to leave unopened toys if possible so that they may receive amnesty from visitors and be paroled out to an appreciative home.
This area is a surprise on the University of Kansas campus! I think the ROTC do some land-navigation training here b/c there are number-coded placards (that hearken back to my time at the "Benning home for Boys" aka Ft. Benning, GA). You can park west of the KU Marching Band practice field (yes, a CONCRETE football field!) at N 38deg57.163 W095deg 16.157 and proceed westward down the gravel road to the beginning of a deer/hiker trail at N38deg 57.153 W095deg 16.187 and follow it south. You can stay dry and cross the creek at the pioneer bridge at N38deg 57.105 W095deg 16.145 and continue to follow the trail. At the decaying guard tower (actually a tree stand)at N38deg 57.109 W095deg 16.093 you can gather your wits for the final leg to the gulag. Try to avoid love-struck collegians and bewildered military cadets in your quest (muggles all!)
