Geocache Description:

a cache-related image

This is our first multi-cache, and only our second cache. Thanks to Deego for the inspiration (see “Deep Joy !!” cache).

This cache container was put together and hidden by Polly, and the clue was done with the help of the grown-ups in the family.

The given co-ordinates will take you to the first stage of this multi-cache. Here you will need to count the number of stepping stones surrounded by water. This number is ‘X’.

The cache is then hidden at the following co-ordinates:-
N 53°04.(X-1)(X)1 W 02°03.(X+1)(X-1)2

So if X were 3, the co-ordinates would be N 53°04.231 W 02°03.422. ** Note - These are NOT the co-ordinates! **

The story of the ghost gate – The tree by the cache was planted on the grave of the farmer who owns the field behind the wall. He dropped down dead when his sheep escaped from the field (some careless traveller had left the gate open). The story goes that the farmer now haunts anyone who leaves the gate open. Although the gate has long since been destroyed, the farmer is appeased by those who go through the actions of closing the gate behind them. (This story may not be true….. ?).

When you have finished with the cache, close the ‘ghost’ gate!

Recommended parking location is N 53°04.615 W 02°03.592 (Good View!). From here we recommend you walk left around the lake (clockwise) to the first stage. If you are doing the local (Hidden Moorlands: Crownpoint Wood) cache from this parking spot, then you should go for that before finding the ghost-gate cache.

On-site facilities (when open) include toilets and a shop. Lots of places for a picnic lunch.
