Footloose Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Carlfan99: I hate to archive this one - I adopted it from local hide masters, Jackcheese and Motlah, and it's been pretty popular. Unfortunately, it's been muggled many time over the past few months, and most recently, it's become a hiding place for someone's stash of an illegal substance. I'm passing the container back to the original cache owners; hopefully, there will be a Footloose #2...?

Geocache Description:

Motlah grew up half a block from here, who knew there used to be a railway here? The San Gabriel Valley Rapid Transit Railroad supposedly ran right down this here street, Woodward Avenue, a rail line that ran from Los Angeles to Monrovia in 1888.

It was an independent company until 1893, running as many as four trains a day. It had financial problems almost from the get-go, and was taken over in 1893 by Southern Pacific, who extended it to Duarte. Southern Pacific operated it until about 1946, at which time it was abandoned and the right-of-way sold to owners of adjacent properties. The picture is supposedly of some old trestle piers over the Alhambra Wash. The grass is where the Red Car turned around. Motlah remembers the street cars that went down Main St. and of course the railway on Mission.

You never know where a train has been.

A lineman will know what he's looking for.

Cache is log only, please bring pen/pencil. There is $1 bill for the FTF, buy your own Quick Pick!
