A short, easy, walk from the World's Biggest Teepee, the Sammis teepee, located beside the Trans Canada Highway in Medicine Hat.
We've been doing a series of caches by the "World's Biggest...whatever". So when we spotted this one we were surprised and delighted to find there were no other caches here yet.
This Teepee is awesome - it's definitely big - over 20 stories high (around 200 feet?). Not only is it big but it's also very nicely done- a tribute to Canada's Aboriginal heritage. Apparently it was designed for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary then moved to "The Hat" in 1991. In Jan 2007, it received some wind damage which was blamed on extensive weathering; now it's 15 ft shorter than it used to be.
Tour the Saamis Teepee then visit the nearby cache where you will have a great view of the nearby Kin Coulee. Existing paths will take you very close to the cache, so please use them. The cache itself is small but camoed in something a bit larger. There was a piece of flagging attached to a nearby bush to help locate it when there is snow around but when the cache was replaced in Aug, 2010 I forgot to check if it was still there.
If you are driving a big rig park at the nearby tourist center, there's not much room to turn around at the teepee. It's a nice 1/2 mile walk from the tourist center to the cache - a good chance to stretch you legs on a long drive.
New cache contents are: small flashlite and ??
