Geocache Description:

Enjoy a one mile multi-cache around some new trails in Chelmsford's George B.B. Wright Reservation.

This 31-acre plot was purchased by the Chelmsford Conservation Commission in 1968 from the daughter of George Benjamin Barrett Wright. Since then additional land donations have brought the total size to 110 acres of woodlands and watershed for Putnam Brook.

A nurseryman, George B. B. Wright planted many unusual species of trees and flowering plants on the site. Among them are magnolias, wisteria, and other species from different parts of the country and the world. You can see what remains of his work during this walk, particularly near Stage 2 of this cache.

Today the Chelmsford Open Space Stewardship assists with the maintenance and care of the property. The land stewards Scott and Amy have made numerous improvements to the trails and bridges in recent months. In addition, they have blazed a new trail to the west part of the property which in the winter serves as a snowshoe trail. This family friendly 3-stage multi-cache will explore the new trail and some of the sights along it. Keep your eyes open in the northwest part of the area for the old horse-drawn McCormick-Deering manure spreader as well as barn foundations which were part of the old nursery. How about that old pine trunk or the "Bittersweet Jungle"? As you enjoy the area please stick to the trails. There are several very wet muddy areas near Putnam Brook that should avoided. No bushwhacking is required as all parts of the cache are less than 50' from the trail including the final.
