Geocache Description:

Earth Day (April 22, 2007) is a worldwide annual event intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. This is a great opportunity to bring geocachers together for the purpose of helping Mother Earth!

To celebrate this day I have created this CITO event on a small unnamed island off Virginia Key. Recently, while kayaking in the area to create a paddling multi-cache (Our First Date: Virginia Key Paddle), we encountered this beautiful island full of beer bottles, canned sodas, and other ugly trash. It made me very sad to see how destructive and disrespectful some people can be, yet I realized that there are others that enjoy and respect nature and the outdoors as much as I do. With that said, a CITO event is in desperate need for this place.

The island is 0.1 mile from shore. In order to get there, you need to travel by kayak, canoe or small boat, so you must arrange to bring your own boat or pair up with someone that can share one with you. This CITO should only take a few hours, and we will meet at 8 a.m in the parking lot on the beach area just after the Rickenbacker causeway at N 25.44.772 W 80.10.713. We can launch non-motorized boats from here. Once we have finished, we can have some lunch on the island (please bring your own) and then do some geocaching in the Virginia Key & Key Biscayne area. ExoticDVM and I are planning on placing a few new caches in the area that will be published prior to this event. Please bring plenty of water, sunscreen, hat, snacks and of course your boat of choice. We will bring the trash bags! RSVP below so we know who is coming.

"The earth will continue to regenerate its life sources only as long as we and all the peoples of the world do our part to conserve its natural resources. It is a responsibility which every human being shares. Through voluntary action, each of us can join in building a productive land in harmony with nature." -President Gerald Ford
