This cache was placed in honor of the former residents of the town of Kosmos. Kosmos was the home of the Kosmos Timber Company, which later became the U.S. Plywood Corporation with a complete logging operation, sawmill, and veneer plant. The town was flooded in the mid 1960's with the building of the Mossyrock Dam. Originally, Kosmos was supposed to be spared from the flooding and then Tacoma City Light decided to build the dam an additional 25' higher bringing an end to the once thriving mill town. Kosmos was located about a mile west of here and some remains can be found depending on the water level of Riffe Lake.
Once a year, on the second Sunday in August, former residents, family and friends get together in Glenoma Park, just east of here, for a potluck dinner. They bring out the old photos, tell stories, and elect a mayor for the upcoming year.
As you drive this road, you might notice old driveways that take off from it. Each of those driveways had a home with a family that was forced to move when the lake went in because they were told the water table would be too high. As you look for this cache, imagine a smaller 3 bedroom home, carport, outbuilding and garden on this property. This is where pwezzr2 grew up.
