Northwest River Park is located on Indian Creek Road; about 3 1/2 miles east of Battlefield Blvd. in the southeastern section of the city. It was developed as a natural recreation area incorporating camping, an extensive trail system, picnic shelters, play areas, an equestrian area for horse owners, fishing, miniature golf, the Marjorie Rein Memorial Walkway, and plenty of open areas. Boats and canoes are available for rental in the camp store. A fragrance garden, for the visually impaired, and a classroom building are located at the north end. The lake stretches almost to the southern activity area which is on the banks of the Northwest River.

What's going on throughout the day:

  • A Silent Auction will be held throughout the day to help offset some of the costs of the event. The silent auction will have unique cache containers, unactivated geocoins, and other geocaching related items and will run from 10:30 to 4:00. You must be present to win silent auction items. Cash/Check/Paypal accepted on site!
  • There will plenty of door prizes with multiple drawings throughout the day for both adults and kids! Winning ticket numbers will be posted, for a limited time, to claim your prizes. During the final drawings, you MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN!
  • There will be a Geo-Poker Run! Instructions for this will be announced at 10:30 am and the deadline for your return will be 3:30 pm. THERE WILL BE PRIZES!  Penguincacher will have all the info at 10:30 am.
  • Geo-Bingo!  Join BeaconBabe for this super fun game.  This is the best way to meet others at the event and to get to know fellow cachers even better.
  • Great Scott's Turkey Shoot. - Use your GPS to mark a waypoint at the pre-designated spot. 2 minutes max time will be allowed for marking the waypoint and one entry per geocacher. All entries will be averaged together. The geocacher that is closest to the average, wins a prize.  Get entry forms from Great Scott! and return them to him by 3:30 pm.

    Camping/Lodging information:

It is Labor Day Weekend! We will have reserved 25 (10 additional sites!) camping sites at Norhtwest River Park and all but a few are spoken for. If you would like to secure a site for Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday night please contact Penguincacher. Campsites are first come first serve. All sites are full service and will accommodate either a camper, a pop-up, or two tents. All sites have a maximum of 5 people or 1 family per site. Cost is $25.00 per night.
Hotel information is being gathered by Chesapeake Convention and Visitor's Bureau, but so far the prices have come back rather high. I'm still working on this to try to get a reasonable rate for anyone who would like to stay in a hotel.

Some door prizes have been donated or discounted by the following:
Backcountry, Woolrich, Jeep, GSAK, Crake Productions, Groundspeak, Geocoin Club, Garmin, Wild River Outfitters, Coins and Pins.
