Treasure Map Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cardinal: This cache hasn't been logged in three years. It has been selected as a favorite by seven cachers. Thanks to all who have found and logged this one. I removed the ammo can today. It was completely dry and the contents were good as new. This location is excellent and I encourage other cachers to use it as a cache location. The Morristown Benchmark Geocoin has gone AWOL.

Geocache Description:

This is my attempt to duplicate following a TREASURE MAP to a cache. The initial stages are on the campus of the University of Arkansas centering around Old Main. The Physical cache is a small Camo Ammo located in Sequoyah Woods City Park.

This is a difficult cache designed for those of you that have tackled "Old Mill Road","Ground Zero-72762","Suburban Oasis", "Lake Wilson Mystery", "First Ground" and "In Memory of Those Who Served."

The first part of the cache is at the University of Arkansas campus around Old Main. Parking is free after 5 pm and on weekends. Be sure and check the signs to avoid being ticketed. If you come on weekdays before 5 pm I advise parking off campus. New construction has closed a lot of parking spots so I don't know a good place to park anymore(2010).

My idea of a Treasure Map is pacing so many steps in a specified direction to a fixed object and then doing the same in another direction to another fixed object, and so on until you find a spot marked with an "X" to identify where the treasure is. This cache will have you using your GPSr as a Compass and as a Measuring Device. You will even find a "Cut Cross" at the last Waypoint. It looks kind of like an "X".

Most of the buildings and streets around the U of A are built along Cardinal directions. When you try tracing a Bearing, first orient yourself ( 90 Degrees is east, 180 Degrees is South, 270 Degrees is West and 360 or 0 Degrees is North.)You will have to locate Waypoints A-F to find the coordinates for the Physical Cache. The Physical Cache is located at:

36 03.ABC 094 08.DEF

Determine the correct numbers for A-F by finding the Waypoints below and answering each question. GOOD LUCK and have fun!

A 180 Degrees, 429 Feet From the Posted Coordinates will take you to Waypoint "A" which is a USC&GS Benchmark. The number of letters in the type of Station Stamped on the Benchmark minus one is "A". You don't have to physically visit the Posted Coordinates and they may actually be in the middle of a Soccer game when you visit. The posted coordinates are the site of a HARN benchmark which can be logged.

B 233 Degrees, 162 Feet from Waypoint "A" will take you to a University of Arkansas Benchmark. There is a sign about 25 feet to the Northwest. The number of letters in the first word of the very top line less two is "B".

C 318 Degrees, .14 Mile from Waypoint "B" will take you to another University of Arkansas Benchmark. There is an ancient timepiece at 260 Degrees, 70 Feet. The number of letters in the third word on the top of this timepiece is "C".

D 75 Degrees, 340 Feet from Waypoint "C" will take you to a USC&GS Triangulation Station Benchmark. There is a Memorial Marker 17 Feet to the West. The number of letters in the last word of the third line of the Memorial Marker is "D". The Benchmark is even with the ground and may be covered with a thin layer of mud after a rain. The Benchmark is located in a small depression about six feet South of a four foot high metal vertical utility structure.

E 355 Degrees, 115 Feet from Waypoint "D" will take you to a USC&GS Reference Mark Disk with an Arrow stamped on top. This arrow points to a name that doesn't have an initial or a middle name. The number of letters in the first name less three is "E".

F 265 Degrees, 180 Feet from Waypoint "E" will take you to a different but very unique Benchmark possibly the area's oldest. It is a "CUT CROSS" and along with the letters C&GS is engraved three feet off the ground on a vertical slab of south-facing limestone. This "Cut Cross" is the "X" on the Treasure Map but in this case the Treasure is the education you can receive at the University of Arkansas. There is lettering on another slab of limestone which faces East and is adjacent to the one containing the "CUT CROSS". The number of letters in the second word engraved on the East-Facing slab is "F".

You are now ready for the physical cache which is a Camo Ammo located in Sequoyah Woods City Park. Park at 36 03.974 094 08.593.

You will visit four Benchmarks while doing this cache that can be logged at Geocaching.com.

I'm very proud to announce that the team of Lorisarah is the FIRST TO FIND.
