Granny's Neck Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Reviewer Revan: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so I am regretfully archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the Reviewer Revan.

Geocache Description:

35 feet from a historical marker.

This container is a wide mouthed, 50 ounce, Zaterain crawfish seasoning plastic bottle. Spray painted black and brown. Lots of trinkets.
Park at the historical marker. The marker tells of the DeSpain Bridge. Now under water in the Cooper Lake a few miles southwest. The bridge was in operation across South Sulphur River from about 1845 to 1870 when it washed away. The state built another, a toll bridge, named Harper's Crossing after the toll keeper, G.W. Harper. Harper's Crossing was near a woman's house that everyone called Granny. Also nearby was a long "neck" of high ground. Hence, the community was called Granny's Neck. For years it was the main bridge for wagons traveling from the Cooper, Bonham, and other nearby towns on their way to Jefferson for supplies.
