Step through the double doors of the Henry Reese-William Walton House. Built in 1838 of native limestone (known as Dayton Marble), this house is a stylized Virginian two-room cottage with a large loft above. This double-door style has the more sophisticated dentils under the eaves and flat stone arches with radiating voussoirs and keystones over the windows. Six more rooms were added in frame, in later years, and the partition dividing the two original rooms was removed. Other features include front doors with stone thresholds and rectangular panels lining both, stone fireplaces with fluted and molded mantels, and a spiraling stairway to the loft with iron rungs imbedded in the walls for handholds.
The Walton House is owned and maintained as a museum by the Centerville-Washington Township Historical Society.
