Geocache Description:

Recommended parking is at N50 29.702 W004 12.343 and the cache is just over a mile from here.

Take the path along the river and into the woods. Keep straight on until you come to some wooden steps then follow these down to the river and to the cache. Continue on the same path to take you back.

Okel Tor is an unusual mine site – it began for lead, changed first to copper and then tin and arsenic production. Many of the remains visible today are of the later tin and arsenic works.

Look out for the distinctive bent chimney of Garton Mine on the Devon bank – some say that it is bent because two different masons worked on either side of the chimney and one was quicker than the other. Some say it is because the chimney was erected so fast that the mortar dried on the sunny side faster than the shaded side of the chimney.

£1 coin for the first to find.
