There is 1 stile on the way to the cache site, which you may need to lift dogs over - our Beagles and Corgis can manage it.
In 1201 the manor of Dunkeswell was given to the Cistercian order for the foundation of an abbey. The abbey was closed in 1539 and was mostly demolished quickly. Today all that remains is a ruined gatehouse and traces of wall.
Holy Trinity church was built on the site in 1842 by Mrs Elizabeth Simcoe - widow of General John Graves Simcoe, and this, along with the burial ground occupies much of the site of the former abbey.
