Geocache Description:

This is an off-set multi cache with an optional puzzle, which will probably require a little investigation on the Internet.

Easter Foal

This cache is intended to provide a pleasant evening stroll for anyone staying at the Stoney Cross campsites, but obviously anyone can do it starting from any of the car parks on Stoney Cross Plain. The direct route is about 1.5 miles (2.5km) and is not approved for bikes. It may be muddy in places, and is not wheelchair friendly. Buggies are probably ok, but 4X4s must stay on the tarmac! There is an approved cycle route running parallel to the A31, which may be more suitable for all in wet weather.

At the start of the 2008 season, the rather nice pictorial boards explaining the Rules for enjoying the New Forest were removed. So now we only have Camp Site Rules. Find them at N50º 54.869’ W001º 38.848’ (SU 24881 12846), and use them to construct the coordinates of the cache:-

A = Litter
B = Noise
C = Advertising
D = Speed
E = Liquid Waste

The coordinates for this impressive cache are:-

N50º 5A.BCD’ W001º EC.0DB’

As you will discover, it would be difficult to hide the usual plastic box with a log book in this cache, so that is hidden nearby. Having found the cache, make a note of the “American” name. He did something here in 1745, but it is hidden now by someone else’s action in 18F1. Some investigation on the internet when you get home may lead you to unravel why this place was so important to him.

Now you have “F” you can find a small black plastic cache box containing the logbook a short distance away at:-

N50° 5A.5(F+3)(D+F)’ W001° EC.1E(F-A)

Please ensure you replace the cache box discretely – it has been relocated due to squirreling muggles. Also, this box is small, so small trades only, or the lid wont close properly!

For an alternative route back, head uphill and turn right when you meet the old track which is now a cycle route. This will take you back towards your starting point.
