Geocache Description:

Small cache located on Penyrallt, Machynlleth. A rocky outcrop and old quarry overlooking Tarren Ridge at an altitude of 253 ft. Terrain has now been reduced to 3 following recent logs. Please ascend with care.

There are several ways to ascend Penyrallt, many of which involve walking along narrow paths on steep slopes, some with rocky sections and a bit of clambering, depending on how fit you are.

On the northern side of the hill there is a path along the base of the hill and you will find grassy trails which lead up.This is perhaps the easiest way.

For the more adventurous there are footpaths along the side of the hill which you can access from the road. These are very narrow trails which will take you up to the top of the ridge quite gently but there is little protection and the slopes are of scree so can be quite unstable. The path may be muddy during very wet weather. A marked public footpath leads up from opposite Rock Terrace, which is rocky in places and quite steep with some sheer sides; this should be walked with care.

However you reach the top, the view is well worth the climb. It can be done in under ten minutes by a reasonably fit person and less than that by someone who is used to walking hills.

There are several benches at the top where you can take the time to admire the views and get your breath back.

Please beware of steep sides and make sure you keep children and pets close to you whilst searching for the cache. You may also see some very low flying aircraft which can appear suddenly and without warning.

The container is a plastic beaker with a log book and a few small swaps.
