This is a virtual cache. There is nothing to sign once you find the final location. Your reward is solving the clues, having a walk around Masham and reporting the missing words to the CO. It would be a pity to archive this puzzle simply because there isn’t a damp piece of paper to sign at the end!
PLEASE DO NOT LOG THIS CACHE UNLESS YOU HAVE HAD AN EMAIL CONFIRMING THAT YOU HAVE MET THE LOGGING REQUIREMENTS.
Masham is a lovely little town in North Yorkshire with a huge market square, two breweries and only a handful of shops.
This is a multistage micro-cache. You will need a pencil to log your visit at the final location.
Solve the four clues below to find the co-ordinates for the final stage.
The first co-ordinates are given, solve clues A, B, C & D.
N 54 A.B
W 001 C.D
Clue A
Starting at the market square butter cross, look for the plaque erected in 2001. King Edward III and King Richard II both share the first two digits of the same century. These digits form part A.
Clue B
Head towards the church, walk at the lefthand side of the church towards the 'Conservation Area' at the rear. Find Henry Calvert's grey marble memorial and make a note of the year of his death. Carry out the following calculation to establish part B
(Year of death - 1467) = B
Clue C
Leave the churchyard and walk along the lefthand side of the market square, past the Kings Head pub. In the corner of the square you will see a tall, thin house. Make a note of the house number.
(House number + 13) = C
Clue D
Walk past Barclay's Bank and look for the brown 'Theakston Brewery Visitor Centre' sign, follow the directions, past Crowham House towards the former HSBC (the building still looks like a bank). Continue to follow the signs until you reach the brewery. Make a note of the year the brewery was established.
(Established in - 1393) = D
You now have the final coordinates. You could continue walking past the brewery, turn right and walk past the sign for the market square, walk alongside the Black Bull Garage and turn left after Silverdale onto College Lane then turn left and follow your gps.
