I have lived all over the country but much of my youth was spent right here in Orem and I have lots of memories here. This cache marks one of them and helps support my nearby "Talon" cache as well.
Many years ago we were having some severe winters. Across the street from the cache were acres of orchards with a high chain link fence. Many deer had come down from the hills to find food and many were getting hit by cars as they loitered on the road attempting to get into the orchards. They were after the discarded frozen apples on the ground. At least 3 deer had been killed in one week. Besides being dangerous to the motorists, it was a sad loss of these poor deer as well. I just couldn't stand by and do nothing.
My friend and I decided a "commando" mission was in order. So late one frigid and snowy night we came to that fence and "opened up a gate" for the deer. Just wanted to save some of lives of these poor deer. And it worked (at least until it was closed up several weeks later!).
The fence, the orchard are now long gone of course. But the memory of that teenage life-saving commando raid is not.
This cache should be a secure area for TBs that will fit and all cachers are encouraged to remove and chuck any geo-junk they find in Commando. The container is water resistant not waterproof so keep that in mind for drop offs. Of course the log container is waterproof.
The code is 4-26-34. Use care to align the hinges before closing (a gentle shake does it).
