Geocache Description:

This five-part multi will take you on a 1.5 mile great aerobic trek at the trails in Tolland’s Crandall Park II on Cider Mill Road. It is meant to be fairly challenging using a variety of natural containers as hiding places. The first four are micros and the final is a medium sized lock and lock. We planned this cache after scouting the area during a break in the 07 NCAA basketball tournament known as March Madness.

Parking is available in several places within the park, but cachers should start at the trailhead located just to the left of the Crandall Park II baseball field before the lodge. There is a signboard with a trail map posted, courtesy of a local Scout project. The park closes at sunset. Please practice CITO and report any vandalism or motorized vehicles on the trail to the local police.

All stages are located within the well marked YELLOW trail loop and within 30 feet of the trail. You will have to complete the entire loop which is approximately 1.5 miles. The loop will take visitors close to a wonderful wildlife marsh which is host to a whole variety of local wildlife and visiting migrant waterfowl. It is not uncommon to see herons, mallards, black ducks, wood ducks, beaver, muskrat, mink, deer and signs of many nighttime active animals such as coyotes and fishers.

We dedicated this cache in memory of Penguin’s Cache which was originally in this trail loop but was vandalized during the fall of 2006. The owner was consulted and he offered up the area to us for our plans of a multi-cache.

As a final note and as is the case with our other caches we have placed, THERE IS NO NEED TO DISTURB, OR TEAR APART ANY NATURAL FEATURES, SURVEY MARKERS, STONE WALLS OR ROCKS TO LOCATE THE CONTAINERS. We would never place a cache in a stone wall and there are many on this valuable parcel of public land. Good luck and we look forward to your feedback!
