Geocache Description:

This is a tribute to my great grandmother, Lydia May Lyman Jones at the Bluff City Cemetary. You take the first street on the right from the north, or any street left from the south, and go West on Mulberry Avenue. Follow it up the hill.

Lydia May Lyman is not the only notable pioneer from Bluff in this cemetery. This geocache is a tribute to all of these incredible people. Settling Bluff was no easy task. Lydia May was a wife to Kumen Jones, one of the original settlers. Lydia May was Kumen's second wife, who bore 10 children for Kumen. Mary Nielson, Kumen's first wife was not able to have children. She was told by her father that Kumen should be a father, and that if she'd let him have another wife, that she would be a mother and raise a family. About the time that Lydia May had her fifth child, Mary bore her only child, Leonard.

When Lydia's youngest child, Francis, was just a babe, she was bathing him in the bathtub in a small room just off the kitchen in their Bluff home. She somehow knocked over the coal oil lamp, spilling flames and oil onto her dress. After taking her baby to safety, she ran across the yard jumping in the watering trough they kept outside. One of the sons was sent to Cortez, Colorado on horseback for a doctor, and got back to Bluff with the doctor three days after leaving there, just in time to hear music coming from the little church there, at her funeral. This is also a tribute to all mothers who give their lives for their children. Lydia died on April 17,1906.

The geocache is a hide-a-key. You do not need to go inside any burial fencing or disturb any graves to find this one. Please place it back as well hidden as you found it. Thank you finickykat for maintaining this cache.
