This cache is located along the Highlands Trail/Stonetown Circular Trail in the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission - on the summit of Bear Mountain. Reference North Jersey Trail Map 115. If this is the only cache you want to get, recommended parking is off White Road. This will put you at the Highland Trails Connector trail head. The trail has some steep elevation changes - a lot of up - but the views at the top are spectacular.
I don't know if there is a reason Bear Mountain has this name - but the rock out-croppings and foliage look like good bear country to me. We made a lot of anti-bear noise while hiking up it. :)
If you are up for a longer hike (just under 4 miles) you might want to consider a two car attack and park one at the athletic fields off Stonetown Road, the other off White Road - B...B...B...Bear would be the next to last cache. This will take you past (as of 4/7/2007) 5 more caches and close to two others.
The cache container is an ammo can.
