Geocache Description:

Squirrel Creek Conservation Area is off Cty. Rd. 21 (Wallace Pt. Rd.)

This series of caches is located along the Otonabee River between Peterborough - Lansdowne Street Lock 19 and Rice Lake. They can all be accessed without using the lock system. Each cache location has car parking available nearby and a landing easily accessible by self propelled watercraft or smaller motor driven craft. They may not all be as friendly to larger motor driven craft. This cache, however, is near a landing accessible to larger pleasure craft. A nice drive by car, planned ahead of time to visit the whole series, will leave Peterborough’s Lansdowne St. at one end and return you in a large loop to the other end of Lansdowne St. This Conservation Area, owned by ORCA, was a very popular campground in the seventies until government funding ws reduced. The park is now cared for by the local municipality. Enjoy a walk to the far ballpark which was once the camping area. A short walk in from gate during “off season.” In summer, the walk from the parking lot is farther. The last 60m will be bushwacking. This is a Conservation Area with a public landing/launch on the west bank. There is a picnic area and unsupervised beach. We suggest boats be locked while you search.
This cache has been placed by a Central Ontario Geocacher!
