Geocache Description:

Grandad’s Tyneside Cache

The footpath along the bank of the River Tyne from East Linton to Hailes Castle gives a lovely walk at any time of the year. The cache has been placed roughly half way between East Linton and the footbridge near Hailes Castle and can be approached from either direction. Whichever direction is chosen it is worth taking the time to enjoy the full walk or, better still, link this cache with Jack Aubrey’s East Lothian Woodland Walks 3 - Pencraig Wood (GCT987) - (there is a signposted footpath from East Linton To Pencraig Hill) - and Marmal’s East Lothian Castles - Hailes (GCW3AA) to make a circular walk from East Linton.

The walk is particularly recommended in spring when the banks above the river between East Linton and the new bridge carrying the A1 over the river are a mass of daffodils and the woodland as you approach the footbridge near Hailes Castle has a spectacular display of blossom.

Although the cache is located quite close to the path it should not be difficult to retrieve discreetly as the path is not heavily used. However, please check that there are no muggles in sight before taking out or replacing the cache, and ensure it is well concealed before leaving. The cache will hold geocoins and small trade items.

I had been planning this cache for some time but decided to wait until my grandchildren (who live in California and first introduced me to geocaching) were here and could get “First to Find”. So sorry to all those out there who collect FTFs - you won’t get a chance at this one!

NOTE: There is no access to the cache from the A1 expressway between Haddington and Dunbar.
