Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NEXT TO PAVED UPPER BOAT RAMP PARKING LOT. DO NOT GO ON ANY DIRT ROADS. (camo 35mm container)

This was the site of Fort Heileman from 1836 - 1841 during the Second Seminole War. The Fort extended from what is presently the Middleburg boat ramp to middleburg elementary school. This placed the fort between the north and south forks of Black Creek. The last troops left Fort Heileman on June 18, 1841 and in 1842 most of what remained of the Fort was swept away by a severe flood. More information regarding Fort Heileman can be found at the Middleburg Historical Museum, on Section street in middleburg. The museum is open on Sundays from 2-4 pm . On your drive along Main Steet enjoy this Historical area.
