Be prepared to use hands and feet while navigating one of the most unique features on the Blue -Blazed hiking trails of Western Connecticut. Do not move any rocks within the Corkscrew or you could die. The trail to Corkscrewed! contains slippery rocks and extensive roots. Hike with care.
Corkscrewed! is located along the Housatonic Range Trail in New Milford, on a section of trail known as the "corkscrew". The Connecticut Forest & Park Association aptly describes the location as, "an interesting geological fold of steep ledges and huge slabs of tumbled boulders". The point of this geocache is not so much to find the container (a decent sized lock n lock as of October 2022) as it is to experience the challenging rock scramble through this fascinating geological maze. The GPSr bounce here is significant so I have added a photograph directing the seeker to the spot where the container lives. When your GPSr indicates that you are within @35' of GZ, start looking at the boulders to your right for a slab with a blue blaze. This indicates a spur that directs you up into the corkscrew. Likewise you could choose to continue up and around the boulder field to the top of the Pine Knob where you can carefully work your way down from the top of the corkscrew. Either way, bring a lunch and be safe while exploring this natural wonder. This experience is best shared with a climbing partner and is not for young children, pets, and the less fit.
