This cache is
located in the 400 acre
Dead Man's Hollow Wildlife
Preserve. A property managed by the conservation
group, The Allegheny Land Trust. This organization acguired this
property in 1998. They have done a huge amount of work to clean up
this area with the help of U.S Steel Workers and countless other
volunteers. The Dead Man _ s Hollow can be accessed by several
different locations. But for this cache the Boston access of the
Youghiogeny River Trail, A hiking & biking trail ( Formerly a
railroad bed for the Pennsylvania & Lake Erie R.R.) is the best
place to start.
The cache is a 3
stage multi-cache, The container for stage #1 is a custom made
waterproof container 1.875" in diameter x 5.625" long. Inside are
the coordinates for stage #2. They are printed on slips of paper.
Take a copy with you and please rehide the container as you found
it.
At stage #2 you will
find a similar container with the necessary coordinates for the
final stage. Take a copy with you also, and please rehide as you
found it. Off trail hiking will be necessary for a portion of stage
two, and complete off trail for the final stage of this cache.Good
waterproof boots are recommended, depending on the
season.
The cache is filled
with the normal swag. There is also a camera in the cache that is
to be used for taking pictures of yourself, your caching buddy's,
dog, or anything that you find interesting. PLEASE!! leave the camera in the box for others to
use. The cache also contains a First To Find prize!! a $10.00
get-go gas card. It's not much but anything will help for caching
travels with the rising cost of fuel.
Once you have located
the cache, check out some of the other cool features in this area.
That is the reason why i placed a cache here, To get people to a
different part of Dead Man's Hollow that they may have never been
to before, and enjoy what this preserve has to offer. There are
also some other great caches in Dead Man's Hollow so you can easily
make a full day of caching in this area. Remember this area is open
to hunting so wear the appropiate blaze orange during hunting
season.
Below are coordinates
for some points of interest. But feel free to explore the area on
your own.
