Geocache Description:

This is a mini-tour of a historic town. This is most effective as a walking cache and is accessible by stroller, bike and wheelchair. There is also street parking if driving is preferred.

Stage 1 Coordinates:
N35 28.660

This will put you at the largest rock that Bath can claim. Of course this was brought to Bath, and in 1924 there was a grand celebration as the marker was placed to display the plaque made to denote Bath's historical significance to North Carolina. On the plaque, find the following information to use for your next destination.
1. Settlers began to come to the area we know as Bath in 1A90.
2. Bath was incorporated in 1B05 and is North Carolina's oldest town.
3. The General Assembly met in Bath in 17C and 17D.
4. St. Thomas, the oldest remaining church in North Carolina was built in 173E.

Stage 2 Coordinates:
N35 28.(A-1)(B-1)1
W076 48.(D-C)2(E+4)

This is a North Carolina state highway marker that explains one of the "firsts" that is attributed to Bath. Using the information on the sign, find the clues for your next stop.
1. Using the alphabet, if A=1 and B=2, etc. find the numerical value of the country that sent this "first" to Bath. Subtract 13 from your answer. A=your answer.
2. Continue using the same alphabet and number calculations, find the numerical value of the man's title and last name. Subtract 2 from your answer. B=your answer.

Stage 3 Coordinates:
N35 28.A9
W076 7B
Your next stop will be a peaceful place where those around you appear to have nothing but free time and no worries. You're not in Oz so follow the red brick road. Use the code to unscramble your hint for the third stage clue.

1. Add together the numbers in the date of birth for A.
2. Subtract the date of birth from the date of death for B.

Stage 4 Coordinates:
N35 28.(A+8)6
W076 48.(B+2)0

Making your way to the waterfront gives you one of North Carolina's most beautiful views. The Tuscarora Indians lived in this area and English explorer John Lawson also called it home. The pirate Blackbeard could have made his way into town most anywhere along this bank as he came to visit with the elite or partake in the local taverns. Sunrises, sunsets and starlit skies are spectacular from this point. But stars can be found even in daylight though a little harder to see. Find the lone star that can still be seen when the sun comes up.
1. Count the points on the star for A.
2. Count the lines that make the star for B.

Stage 5 Coordinates:
N35 28.(A+1)22
W076 48(B-3)30

You are now heading to the cache. At this site you can see how we arrived here as well as where you have been. When you find the cache, feel free to take an item as you leave an item and sign the ledger. But hopefully you will feel like a winner as you take with you some of the history that we have to offer.
