Geocache Description:

Larger sandwich sized Lock-n-Lock container with camo. Mixed forest and prairie terrain including long grass, some cactus, loose uneven soil, some trees and in season snow and mud. Easy parking near a National Forest interpretive sign. Take the Iron Mountain Road for access.

Short walk from the parking area. From here if you look close you can see a far off view of Mount Rushmore on the peaks to the Northwest. My wife and I have been surprised over the past 5 years at the General lack of caches in this area. We finally decided to do something about it. We visit here frequently. This is a very beautiful and scenic drive between Custer State Park and the Mount Rushmore memorial. Along the way you will see a lot wildlife at anytime of the year. Including buffalo, deer, coyote and burros. yes - you read right burros. Very friendly animals that will beg for food from any passerbys. Be sure to bring them a healthy treat like carrots or apples instead of the Junk food that many give them. Take a moment to enjoy the high prairie vista and scenery from this location.
