Geocache Description:

Tsunami Spotting is a cache hidden on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland at a place with spectacular views.

Peregian Beach is just north of Coolum on the Sunshine Coast and is the home to THENANKS' geo-grandparents. The view from the area of the cache placement can only be described as spectacular. Looking south you can see Mooloolaba, east is the Pacific Ocean, northwards to Noosa and west out to the lakes. Please have a look at the gallery to see the 2 photos taken on the day we placed the cache.

Geoplops considers this to be the place to which to flee in the incidence of a tsunami! (Being coastal residents, THEgrandNANKS apparently think about these things.) The waves that caused enormous devastation in Indonesia on Boxing day, 2004 are now believed to have been up to 25 metres high with "run-ups" of over 30 metres above sea level.

We discovered using our GPSr that the cache is at about 56 metres above sea level. So GeoGranny and GeoPlops are obviously on a winner! We still suggested grabbing a step ladder so they could reach the bottom rung of the ladder that climbs to the top of the water tower.

We hope you enjoy the cache hunt and the views from one of our favourite places in Queensland.
