Blacks Gold is meant to be a bit of a physical challenge for able-bodied, experienced geocachers. No small children, please, as there is a certain amount of risk in navigating this type of terrain.
I finally decided to place my first cache, after finding a worthy location. This one complies with my personal preference that a cache should be placed in an interesting location, and require a certain amount of skill to reach. This location is an oasis in the hot summer months. It's a spot of green in an otherwise barren desert region, and has interesting geographic features. Look for wildlife nearby, especially waterfowl and birds of prey (and sometimes cows; it's open range). If you want a better view of the ravine, walk west to N43-27.781, W116-08.940. Very scenic. Park just off the main road near the dam and take the short hike in over the dam. Poison oak (look for little white berries) noted in the ravine.
