Geocache Description:

A Flash Mob Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long!

Flash Mob Cache Event aka A Flash Cache Event

We would like to host a caching event to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the hobby.

This event, however, will be quite unique, creative, be the first of it's kind (as far as we know of) and might be the fore-runner of a new type of event.

You're heard of mega-events? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Flash mobs have gathered for other reasons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob) but never before for geocaching. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last exactly 15 minutes, not one second longer.

The event will begin precisely at 12:00 pm on Sunday, May 20th. The event will be held at N41° 42.872 W083° 44.614. This is in an open public space, near the clock tower at Mayberry Plaza in Sylvania. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. A minute-by-minute itinerary will be posted here 2 weeks prior to the event. We will also have printed copies of this ultra-precise itinerary distributed at the event.

Go here for the itinerary / schedule: TBA

At exactly 12:00 pm (as determined by the GPS clock) I, your host, will place a bucket full of nice, new swag at the coordinates. We will place a small CD player on the ground near the bucket to play some pleasant, upbeat music. One volunteer will hand out "log sheets". Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book), to qualify for attendance and drop them in a designated collection box. Bring a pen. Participants may trade swag via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade. Another volunteer will hand out raffle tickets. Another volunteer will hand out nametags and markers.

If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.

At a designated time, we will toss out Hershey Kisses to all attendance for the event "meal".

At a designated time, we will take a group photo.

At a designated time, we will call out the raffle winners.

At precisely 12:15 pm the bucket, and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace. Events that happen after 12:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event.

Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

We hope to gather a "good showing" of cachers at this event. Tell your friends and help promote the event.

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. Parking can be difficult to find. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!

Note: Although participants are welcome to get together for brunch after the event. The event will officially be over at 12:15. At brunch, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching in or near Sylvania.

I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?"

This event is one of a series of flash mobs that are being synchronized to happen all at the same time across the country.

I’m going to need several volunteers to pull this off. If you are interested in helping, log onto www.nwogeo.org and let me know in the events forum, or e-mail me through this page.

See you there!
