Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in honor of the many long time collectors of antique barbed wire and fencing tools that contributed their time and resources to the establishment of The Devil's Rope Historical Museum of Barbed Wire and Fencing Tools, which is dedicated to preserving the history and artifacts of barbed wire. The Museum contains numerous displays that explain the history of barbed wire, its artifacts, the significance of the invention of barbed wire, and the impact of barbed wire on the development of the Old West.

Within the museum you will learn about the range wars and fence cutting wars that erupted over barbed wire fences, and the development of liniments and salves to treat the wounds from being entangled in barbed wire. You will also learn why barbed wire became known as "Devil's Rope".

While at the museum be sure to also visit the Texas Route 66 Exhibit complex which is located in the same building. Here you will learn about the history of Route 66 through Texas. There are displays and many artifacts related to travels, tribulations, and life on the old "Mother Road".

If the museum happens to be closed when you are here, you can visit their web site (visit link) to see just a little of what you missed.

This micro sized cache, located outside the entrance to the museum, no longer has room enough for trade items. There is plenty of parking nearby and big rigs are welcome. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Placed with permission, so it would be nice if you let the folks at the museum know you are a Geocacher. Admission to the museum is free.
