AltamiraCanyon - Prickly
Pear
Recent floods and fires have cleared out Altamira Canyon,
allowing us to travel and enjoy its entire two mile length for the
first time in years. This local canyon hides many dry
waterfalls, pools, and even a section of red rock slot
canyon! It is a hidden gem awaiting hikers with a passion for
beauty and adventure.

But beware, the hike is 1000 feet down two miles of
trailless river bottom like the picture above, requiring some minor
rock scrambling at times. Cell phones don't work here, and
GPS reception can be spotty. Bring adventure gear, including
a bright flashlight (even by day you'll need it, trust me!), a
compass, sturdy footwear, a snakebite kit, and enough water for
3hrs + hiking. Your reward: aches, pains, scrapes, beautiful
views of a rugged and rarely visited canyon, and of course a
cache!
Enjoy!

wildlife!
The cache is on
top of the bank under the Prickly Pear cactus. Use the
trunk of the Willow tree to help you
climb!
