Geocache Description:

This is matchbox container at the Searcy public launch area on the Little Red. It contains an authentic civil war bullet I found metal detecting (at Searcy Landing with permission)for first to find prize.

Searcy Landing, some 3 miles up river on private ground, during the early 1800’s served as a stopping point for steamboat traffic. These boat carried goods from all over the world to the Searcy area ( a floating merchandise store). During the civil war the landing served as a union camp under the command of Colonel Peter J. Osterhaus. On may 19, 1862 a union foraging party in the direction of west point was attacked by a group of Parson’s 12th Texas cavalry CSA which lead to the battle of Whitney lane (see woodwalker9’s Whitney Lane Cache GCMZEM). I hope that you enjoy this area and reading of it's history. As always, if you have suggestions or comments on improving this cache, please state it in you log or email me at my profile link. Above all, be safe, have fun, and happy caching.
