A roadside "cache'n'grab" micro cache, with a related bonus cache.
The Stuart Kings of Scotland believed in “The divine right of the monarch”, that they were chosen by God as the spiritual head of the church and that they were infallible. Many Scots did not agree with this, believing that Jesus Christ only could be the spiritual head of the church. In 1638 they signed the “ National Covenant”, voicing their opposition to the King. This led to a period known as the killing time, where a man could be shot for refusing to take the Kings oath. Those who signed the covenant were known as “Covenanters”, who increasingly became the religious extremists of their day. Due to the repression enforced by the King, had to meet and worship in secret. One such place where meetings would take place was at a stone near Shotts , known as the Covenanters Stone or the Fortissat Stone. The remains of the stone are at the roadside, the cache is located at the base of a tree around 100m uphill from the stone. The cache container contains a logbook only. On a sticker inside the container are the co-ordinates for the bonus cache: "Losing My Religion". BEWARE OF MUGGLES. THIS IS A BUSY ROAD.....SAFETY FIRST!
