**UPDATE NOV 18/13** Cache has been moved to a safer and more accessible spot (no bushwacking!). Glad to see there is now a dog leash free zone at the park! This cache is located in the Phyllis Rawlinson Park (19th Avenue & Leslie) in Richmond Hill. Phyllis Rawlinson, a long time resident of the town, donated the land under the condition that it be managed for conservation purposes. Part of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the park is home to wildlife, a wide variety of flora and fauna and insects! The park has walking trails, a pond, a small creek, marsh boardwalk and picnic facilities. The original farmhouse and barn (one of York Region’s oldest designated buildings) is visible from the cache location.
This park is a quiet retreat and a great spot to exercise your dog! The cache is a quick find for those in hurry, but if you have the time, follow the paths around the park and enjoy the scenery. All trails are relatively short and circle back to the year round parking lot. Watch for wildlife! Hawks abound here and the Canada Geese are fearless. Parts of the trail cut through the marsh and portions become very wet in spring. Suitable footwear and a towel for mans best friend is recommended!
