I discovered this forgotten place with the Cache Rats while
biking in the area. Unless you take the time to explore the disused
and slowly reclaimed trail that brings you here, you might never
find it. Even now, before the trees and shrubs start sprouting
leaves, it is impossible to see from even the closest part of the
KC Trail. You will notice that the area has obviously has visitors,
but I believe that they've been much fewer since the expansion of
the upper middle class neighborhood, a little more than a tenth of
a mile away. The new development most likely destroyed a
clandestine parking spot where teens of dubious intent could slip
unseen into the woods.
I can't say for sure what was the precise function of this
structure, as whatever used to inhabit it is long gone. Parts of
the roof are slowly submitting to time and nature. Enter at your
own risk. The cache is around back, not inside. I've done my best
to make the cache as invisible as possible. Anyone who
stumbles on this cache by accident is unlikely to leave it for the
next cacher, so as always, take care to place everything
back the way you found it. There's room for a few small trade items
or TB's. The logbook takes up most of the space.
A final word on parking... I strongly suggest parking at
one of the two spots listed below. I didn't see any parking
available on Hop Brook Road, and I can't say how happy the
neighborhood's residents will be to see strange cars parking just
off the road. I'm not worried about anyone giving away the location
of the cache, since this trail gets lots of use, but I'd hate to
hear about a cacher looking for a shortcut getting ticketed or
towed. Use your best judgement.
Enjoy the adventure, and please…
