[EN] Nový Dvur Arboretum was founded on 1 January 1958. The basis was one of the dendrologically most valuable park areas in Silesia; its foundation is closely related to Quido Riedel (1878 - 1946), a former owner of the Nový Dvur manor. During his activity in Nový Dvur (1906 – 1928), Quido Riedel created a romantic chateau park with refined taste on not very large area of only 1.5 hectares where 500 species and forms of domestic and exotic woody species were grown.
This park became a basis of today’s arboretum and is the historical part of the dendrological exhibition nowadays, which grew from the original area to 23 hectares. A lot of valuable woody species were preserved in the historical part till these days and many of them are important occurrences both in Europe and in the Czech Republic.
The rich dendrological exhibition constitutes more than one half of all the plants grown in the arboretum of which there are over 7000 species, varieties, kinds and mutations. There are both domestic and exotic plants from all the continents.

While walking in the park you can admire evergreen vegetation of many kinds and varieties of cypresses, argot vitae, spruces, pines, yews and species of tsuga genus, firs and junipers. Also rare types of the evergreen woody species and rarities, among which we can see a large collection of 'Rhododendron' genus, made the arboretum famous and form one of the largest collections in the Czech Republic. On display there are giant "mammoth trees" – sequoia, Pinus aristata pines from Arizona which are more than 4000 years old in their homeland, and also representatives of ancient, sacred and healing gingko tree, a contemporary of dinosaurs. Among other dendrological attractions there are legendary cedars, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, "living fossil", which had only been known from fossil findings before it was discovered in 1943 as a 30-metre tall tree in the forests of Sichuan Province in China, or Microbiota decussata, a decumbent bush with the smallest cones among coniferous species. Deciduous woods multiply the beauty and biodiversity of the arboretum by changes and blossoms during all the seasons. From blooming heathers, viburnums, forsythias and rhododendrons to Japanese and Chinese cherry trees, maples, mock oranges and catalpas.

In the area of arboretum peat bogs can be found next to heather moors, dunes, American and Siberian plants, Himalayan species and prevernal woody species.

The cache is placed outside the arboretum and can be accessed at any time. The arboretum's opening hours are daily from 8am till 6pm. Dogs are not allowed.
