Geocache Description:

From the creators of THE SHAFT™ comes another fun up, up, up and more up hiking experience.

This cache takes you to the piece of rock that lies between the area known as West Rock (the one with all the radio antennas on top) and East Peak (the one with Castle Craig on it).  There's no official name for this area but since many people describe the hanging hills area as fingers of rock jutting out into the landscape we've christened this particular finger as the Middle Finger.  Why Mysterious Middle Finger?  Well, We could never seem to find a trail that would get us there easily...Until Now!!  The views from up here are spectacular, not to be missed, it'll get your heart rate up while attacking the path too.

The all important Details:

Parking:

There are two places to park, the longer hike but better parking area and the shorter hike (only by a little bit) and tricky parking conditions, perhaps only space for one car...

Longer Hike:

Parking and trail head: N 41 33.031 W72 50.113

Slightly Shorter Hike:

Parking and trail head are N41 33.195 W072 50.707

Head towards the location listed at the top of the page to find the first micro.  Once you've found the micro, go over the bridge and head towards the intersection of the Blue Trail and the trail you're on.

The Co-ords for this intersection are N 41 33.425 W72 50.468

Be careful here! - The Blue Trail loops at this point, the trail therefore goes in two directions, The trail you want heads off at 270° (that's to the left if your standing there looking up the hill).  Just head in the general direction of the final and you'll be ok.

Hike up and admire the views, you'll have to skirt around the final to get to the trail that leads you to the middle finger (that elusive trail).

Head up to the Mysterious Middle Finger when you reach N41 33.588 W72 50.578

From there, you're on your own, don't jump off any cliffs, don't try boulder surfing and please don't try to wrestle the Turkey Vultures.  You have been warned.

View to Castle Craig from close by the final
