The cache is placed at the site of a church which is partially
coverered by volcanic rock. To locate the cache, it is necessary to
go to the town of Angahuan. It is then possible to horse-ride with
the locals or hike to the site. The cache is placed aproximately 1
mile away from Angahuan - next to the buried church. The whole area
around the cache is made of volcanic rock, where a town once
existed.
In the early 1940´s, the volcano slowly started to appear on
nearby farmland. Fortunately, no lives were reported lost, but the
whole town was engulfed, leaving behind the church towering over
the site. It is also reported that due to the isolation at the
time, many people began to think that the world was ending, until
they were visited by outsiders who came to assist, and learned the
real story. Please take care when walking around the site,
especially when watching the GPS to navigate. The terrain is very
rough, and there are unavoidably loose rocks in some areas. This
cache will be maintained by Jorge, who lives in Uruapan.
The waypoint will take you to a rock "balcony" overlooking the
church. You will see a large rock infront and a medium rock
underfoot. The cache is to the left of the medium rock, covered by
smaller rocks.
