Geocache Description:

A short multi around Kirkton of Skene near Aberdeen

Kirkton of Skene is a small farming village 6 miles west of Aberdeen. The centre of the village is dominated by the parish church which gives the settlement its name.

The multi is situated in and around the church which was originally dedicated to St Bride. It appears to date from 1296, when Patrick of Skene signed himself "Clericus of Skene". This medieval building stood by the Roman Road from Normandykes to Donside. Kirk Session records began in 1676 and a 17th century building stood on the site of the present Skene Church.

The current Skene Church was built in 1801 as a plain rectangular building with the pulpit in the centre of the south wall. A mortsafe was built outside the west door to protect the recently deceased from body snatchers. The interior of the church was refurnished in 1932.

The church is surrounded by the church graveyard which contains the war memorial.
